The Celebrity Shopping Trolley - Cheeky Girls

Do these Transylvanian twins eat garlic to fight off the Vampires, or are The Cheeky Girls a model of healthy eating?

We take a sneaky peep into their supermarket trolley.

I am a bit long in the tooth to follow young pop stars like The Cheeky Girls, but surprise, surprise, I know all about them. Back in the summer, two of our young neighbours, girls of 11 and 9, came to swim in our pool. We live in a tiny French town on the Loir river, so I was surprised when they danced round the pool singing what sounded like “Touch My Bum”.

It was: they knew all the words and told me they loved the Cheeky Girls. I just hope their parents don’t understand the English words or think they learned them from me! Any way, I was converted and am now also a fan of the twins, Monica and Gabriela Irimia.

These girls are very fit, active and they look great, which is not a surprise when you study their eating habits. After a few years of experimenting with different eating patterns they found the best regime that matched the calorie requirements of their demanding physical routines with keeping their weight under control without the need for any sort of special dieting.

Breakfast like a King, lunch like a Prince and dine like a pauper is an old proverb that really is true and the girls do it.

Semi-skimmed milk with organic cornflakes; toast honey or jam; boiled eggs with tomatoes and spring onions and always fruit juice. Perfect fuel for the day ahead and no attack of the munchies mid-morning.

A salad, fish with vegetables or chicken with rice and tomatoes is the usual lunch, so plenty of nutrients there.

Their early evening meal is a perfect mix of oily fish, or chicken sandwich in good, seed bread with a green salad. During the summer it may be a fish or chicken BBQ, also low fat and high protein.

Monica and Gabriela snack on fresh fruit all day, drink very little alcohol and only one cup of coffee a day. Three portions of ice cream and 5 cans of diet coke a week are hardly vices of Dracula and their trolley full of organic cereals, milk fruit, chicken and ice cream is a great role model for all young women and teenage girls.

These talented and energetic performers are not going to miss out on any of the essential nutrients and will make sure they have the strong bones that help avoid osteoporosis (brittle bones), in later life.

They are slim but not underweight, though why they put themselves through the risks of breast enlargement surgery is a mystery to me, especially with a doctor and a midwife for parents. But what children ever listen to their Mum or Dad, I know mine didn’t.

In spite of that, these girls have a healthy diet and lifestyle and deserve their success. I’ll touch their bum anytime they like!
